Mariposa Inn
1386 MUNRAS AVENUE
MONTEREY, CA, US 93940
7pm Thursday Aug 14th
Parking can be tight at the motel, but there is a parking lot across
the street at a shopping plaza. It's a great way to meet with all the
tomyang.netters in person, and make plans for the rest of the weekend.
The get together lasts for about 3 hours and all are invited.
A couple of months ago I mentioned I was contacted
by a previous owner of my 330 America. He read the feature article
in the August issue of Forza, and contacted me about SN 5053. Phil
Farber told me a Sandy Brawley bought 5053 in the early 70s, so I began
the search for the next owner. With the help from some tomyang.netters,
I found Sandy's e-mail and sent him a letter. Within a day, I got a
response saying "Yes, Tom I am your man. I hope I can help." I was so
excited about finding another piece to the puzzle to 5053. I called
Sandy and we had a pleasant conversation about his ownership.
Sandy bought the car in Philadelphia from Phil and moved to Chicago. He
remembers the car being very enjoyable and reliable. Although he owned
the car for about a year, his memory of it was like it was yesterday.
He got a job in California, and was thinking about selling the 330
America and a Vice President at the saw manufacturer, Skil Saw
contacted
him about buying the car. Winter was approaching, and Sandy was not too
keen on pulling the car out of the garage for a test drive for the
prospective buyer. As the garage door was opened, the executive
immediately stated, "if it starts, I'll write you a check for
what you want!"
Of course, the battery was dead! That didn't seem to deter the original
offer, so after finding a good battery, the 330 America fired right up.
The executive went back to his car to write Sandy a check. After 30
years, Sandy has forgotten the name of the buyer, but I'm trying to
piece together who the executive at Skil Saw could have been. This
piece of the puzzle will fill a three year span until the car was
titled to an Arthur Bastyr in Chicago and sold to the next owner.
Just a reminder, I'm looking for a
new Vintage Ferrari Project. If you have, or know of a restoration
project, please let me know. It would be great to restore another car
on this website! My E-mail.
